ASUS N10J … the next big thing!

I am starting to look at the small “netbook” style computers. My current laptop is a Sagar Desktop-replacement that is sorta like a the evil offspring of an iron forge and a helicopter. (it is hot and noisy). The new small 10 inch netbooks are more my style right now. I use Linux, so 3D FPS gaming is not near the top of my list anyway, and this brick on my lap right is starting to show and act like its age.

ASUS N10JThen I found the ASUS N10J. This is not marketed as a netbook, but is the same size as one. It has the same ATOM processor, but has discrete NVIDIA graphics vice integrated or…cough, cough an ATI card (important for Linux) 2G DDR2 RAM, Not a broadcom NIC (also important to my OS choice). PC Express slot, bluetooth, and HDMI port.

This is more like a larger notebook with just a smaller lighter case!

Now to get there, you have to have the right kernel (probably have to compile your own…not that scary) and some patience. Here is some help:

Only thing that scares me is the combo spdif/audio out jack. Not sure if this will work with linux…the onboard speakers will work so it might not be a show-stopper.

Here is a review from some internet show…
